About the Marine Life - Mosaic Seastar
Share
Mosaic seastars, also known as Plectaster decanus, are a species of sea star found primarily in the waters around Australia, including Tasmania. They are named for their distinctive and beautiful pattern, which resembles a mosaic.
Mosaic seastars are known for their relatively large size, often reaching up to 30 cm (about 12 inches) in diameter. They are typically found in shallow coastal waters, often on rocky reefs, where they feed on a variety of invertebrates, including sponges and bryozoans. They play an important role in their ecosystem, helping to maintain the balance of species on the reefs where they live.
