Mosaic sea stars are named known for their distinctive and beautiful pattern that resembles a mosaic. They are relatively large in size, often reaching up to 30 cm (about 12 inches) in diameter and are typically found in shallow coastal waters, often on rocky reefs, where they feed on a variety of invertebrates, including sponges and bryozoans. They play an important role in their ecosystem, helping to maintain the balance of species on the reefs where they live.
